Art as a Therapy; A GFSB Wellness Session

Helen Rea in partnership with the Gibraltar Federation of Small Business (GFSB)’s member consultants M.J. Feeke (wellness & nutrition specialist) and with sponsorship by the Infinity Group LTD, welcoming the local community to join for a session of theraputic artistry practice in the medium of watercolour.

Helen Rea lead the session in a constructive afternoon of watercolour discovery bringing participants together for a relaxing and inspiring two hour creative experience designed to foster connection, develop watercolour painting skills and provide a welcome escape from the demands of everyday life.

With all art materials and refreshments provided, guests were welcomed with a glass of wine, a selection of fruit juices, beer or crisp cool water (provided by The Infinity Group) before being guided through a series of accessible watercolour techniques in a supportive and encouraging environment. Beginning with basic theory and practical examples, the students quickly developed their basic skills and begun their focus on a more complex painting, a bird – the humble eurasian hoopoe.

Whether attending as complete beginners or with previous artistic experience, participants were encouraged to paint with confidence, explore new creative skills and immerse themselves in the creative process rather than focusing on the final result.

Through mindful watercolour painting, the workshop provided an opportunity to quiet the mind, express creativity and step away from the concerns of the outside world, leaving many feeling refreshed, inspired and more connected with themselves and others.
